- Policy types are different, don’t confuse price with coverage, get the best value in coverage for your premium.

- Ask about higher deductibles, they can reduce your premium substantially.
- Reduce coverage on older cars, it may not be cost-effective to continue insuring an older car for certain kinds of coverage.
- Buy your auto and homeowners coverage from the same insurer; you may get a companion policy discount.
- Maintain good credit; your credit rating may affect what you pay for insurance.
- Ask about a safe driver discount, and a credit for taking a defensive driving course.

Flood and earthquake coverage
Flood and earthquake damage are not covered by a standard homeowners policy. If you buy a house in a flood-prone area, you'll have to pay for a flood insurance policy that costs an average of $400 a year. The National Flood Insurance Program provides useful information on flood insurance on its Web site at http://www.floodsmart.gov . An earthquake policy requires a separate review. |

| Boat Insurance Tips |
How Can I Save Money?
The type and value of the vessel, the horsepower of the engines and the location where it is kept are all factors in determining coverage and premium.
Boat Insurance can be tricky, so work closely with your agent to get the best value for your premium.
Boating accidents cause millions in property damage every year. Having the appropriate property and liability coverage is essential. Keep in mind that boating accidents occur on land as well as water.
Larger and faster boats, such as fishing boats with larger engines, speed boats, yachts, and personal watercrafts such as jet skis and wave runners require a separate boat insurance policy.
Boat insurance can also cover:
- For physical loss or damage, coverage includes the hull, machinery, fittings, furnishings
and permanently attached equipment for an Agreed Value
- Boat policies also provide broader liability protection than a homeowners policy
- Bodily injury - for injuries caused to another person
- Property damage - for damage caused to someone else's property
- Guest passenger liability - for any legal expenses incurred by someone using the boat with the owner's permission
- Medical payments - for injuries to the boat owner and other passengers
- Theft
Most companies offer liability limits starting at $15,000 and can be increased to $300,000.
Typical policies include deductibles of $250 for property damage, and $500 for theft.
They can provide $1000 for medical payments and higher limits may be available.
Additional coverage can be purchased for trailers and other accessories.
Boat owners may also consider purchasing an umbrella liability policy that will provide additional protection for their boat, home and car.
Boaters should also inquire about special equipment kept on the boat, such as fishing gear, to make sure it is covered.
Verify that towing coverage is included in the policy.
But don’t forget price is not everything. Discounts matter but proper coverage is more important. |

| Motorcycle Insurance Tips |
How Can I Save Money?
Motorcycle insurance is widely available. You may carry a minimum amount of liability coverage; however be advised, liability insurance only covers bodily injury and property damage that you may cause to other people involved in an accident. It does not cover you or your motorcycle.
Motorcycle insurance also covers:
- An additional option within your liability insurance is first-party medical coverage, in the event you want to be reimbursed for bodily injury expenses you incurred
- You may also be able to purchase coverage for medical bills received from an injured party
- And check whether your liability coverage also includes Guest Passenger Liability
- Collision (covering damage to your motorcycle)
- Comprehensive (covering damage caused by events other than a collision, such as fire, theft or vandalism)
- Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage
- Motorcycle accessories coverage for items such as add-ons, customizations, aftermarket parts and anything else you may have added to your bike
Other factors can affect how much you will pay in motorcycle insurance premiums, including:
- Driver's age and driving record
- Where the driver lives
- Model, style (sports bike vs. cruiser) and age of the motorcycle
- Number of miles the motorcycle is driven each year
- Where the motorcycle is stored
**When you comparison shop, inquire about discounts for:
- Multi-bike discounts for those insuring more than one bike on a single policy
- Mature rider discounts for experienced riders
- Installation of anti-theft devices
- Discounts for graduates of training courses, such as the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Rider Course. (Riders under the age of 25, usually considered at higher risk, and motorcyclists who have already had accidents stand to save the most)
**(The discounts listed above may not be available in all cases or from all insurance companies)
But don’t forget price is not everything. Discounts matter but proper coverage is more important.

| Identity Theft Tips |
Did you know Identity Theft may be covered by insurance?
Federal Trade Commission studies have found that millions of Americans are victims of Identity Theft. Those victims are often left unable to use existing credit or get loans. They may be harassed by debt collectors, be subject to criminal investigation, civil suit and in some instances arrested!
For as little as $10.00 in premium a year, this type of coverage may provide $25,000 in coverage for reimbursement of expenses associated with identity and credit restoration, including lost wages and other expenses.
How Can I Avoid Identity Theft?
- Keep the amount of personal information in your purse or wallet to the bare minimum
- Avoid carrying additional credit cards, your social security card or passport
- Guard your credit card when making purchases, shield your hand when using an ATM or making long distance calls with phone cards
- Always take credit card or ATM receipts, don’t discard in public trash containers, leave them on the counter or put them in your shopping bag
- Proceed with caution when shopping online, make sure you are buying from a reputable retailer with a secure network
- Monitor your accounts, don’t rely on your Credit Card Company or Banks to alert you of suspicious activity, carefully monitor your bank and credit card statements, contact your credit card company or bank immediately if you suspect fraud
- Shred documents containing personal information, credit card numbers, bank statement information, charge receipts or credit card applications
- Order a copy of your credit report from each of the three major credit bureaus; a new law that took effect December 1, 2004, entitles you to one free credit report per year
- Place passwords on your credit card, bank and phone accounts; avoid using information like your mother's maiden name, your birth date, any part of your Social Security number or phone number, or any series of consecutive numbers, and change passwords regularly
- Don't give out personal information on the phone, through the mail or over the Internet, don’t give out any personal information unless you’ve initiated the contact or are sure you know whom you are dealing with and that they have a secure line
